The plant is famous for its large, elongated heart-shaped (cordate) leaves, which boast a striking deep olive-green to nearly black color and a signature plush velvet sheen. This unique texture is a result of dense, microscopic bumps (papillae) on the leaf surface, which lends the species its name and gives the foliage a soft, suede-like feel, often making it a prized specimen for indoor cultivation.

For optimal indoor care, the Anthurium papillilaminum requires conditions that closely mimic its humid, tropical origin.
